Braemar Wolves v The Drifters: The LSi Rounders Match

The Drifters The Drifters
The Braemar Wolves The Braemar Wolves

The inaugural LSi rounders match took place on Monday 22nd July. The first overcast day we've had for weeks was a good choice as the heat was bearable and looking at the fitness of some people, any hotter and we could have had an emergency situation.

The Braemar Wolves, captained by Dennis Scholefield (Warehouse Manager) were full of the banter prior to the start of the game. The Drifters captained by Dan Farrar (Sales) weren't drawn by the pre-match mind-games and set about building a healthy score of 7 rounders after the first innings of 15 minutes.

Liam, eyes on the ball!! Liam, eyes on the ball!!

At the change, The Wolves brought out the big hitters in Ben (Admin), Ali (Sales), Dan Berry (Artwork) and despite his ability to miss more that he hit, Liam Money (Artwork) hit two massive home runs. Helped in no part to some dodgy catching and throwing displayed by The Drifters. The scores were tied after the first inning!

The second innings started with a bang with Nicola Bales (Sales) stepping up to the plate, looking to make amends for her poor first innings performance. She hit a piledriver towards 4th base where the evergreen Dennis Scholefield pounced like a cat low down to his left and caught the ball. OUT! was the verdict, much to the astonishment of the rest of The Drifters who didn't realise Dennis (63) was that flexible! That rocked the team who struggled to score with only Rosie, Chris, Dom and Lloyd hitting home runs. The latter retiring with a pulled hamstring after a cheetah-like dash to first base.

Dan Berry tried a little too hard Dan Berry tried a little too hard

This left the Braemar Wolves needing only 5 to win. Home runs from Angela (Accounts), Oliver (Work Experience) and man of the moment Dan Berry who racked up another 2 leaving the path clear for Helen Miskell (Sales) to step up and hit the winning rounder - once again helped by some shocking fielding.

All in all a fair result and a good time had by both teams. Watch this space for more inter-company events planned for the future.
